A few weeks ago, I reached out to readers and asked them to send me their design questions and dilemmas and I'd tackle the research. I'm so glad I did! Here's a question that one of my friends sent in.
We're just going to tackle the first part today about whether or not you need painters tape and we'll be back next Monday to tackle the color half of the question.
As we're about to be doing A LOT of painting soon I was was really glad Sarah asked this question.
The short and exciting answer is that you do NOT have to use painters tape. I came across two methods that several experienced DIY bloggers claim to be tried and true methods.
Young House Love and Newly Woodwards both swear by this little edger brush. I'm not sure if you can get it at your local hardware store, but it is supposed to be available at Sherwin Williams or Duron stores or through Amazon. Click the picture to take you to the Amazon link.
Canary Street Crafts has a great tutorial on how to use the brush to cut in around trim and at wall and ceiling edges.
You can also use a paint guard like this one to press agains the wall or floor for a clean edge.
I'm looking forward to trying both of these methods in our house soon to see which one I like better. I'll be sure to come back with an update!
What about you? Have you used either of these suggestions or do you have any other tricks to share? I'd love to hear from you in the comments below!
