Happy New Year 2018
Happy New Year, Friends! 31 days late but it still counts, right? I hope you all enjoyed your holidays. I took a much needed break from the blog and even from posting to social media (shocker, I know) for the last few weeks. I love both things, but sometimes a break is much needed in order to regroup and stay motivated and inspired.
I’ve been thinking a lot about Whitken & Co. lately, and what I would like it to look like in the coming year. In 2017, we changed our name and launched as an official business, took on our first client within a week, focused on creating more valuable and helpful blog content, went to quite a few networking events and a conference as we sought to learn and get our name out, created a free 30 day course on creating a healing home, which we’re prepping to launch through email soon (you can find it on our Facebook page too), and bought our home which we purchased not just as a home but with the goal of using it to grow our business and serve others.
When I was preparing for the launch of Whitken & Co. and during those first few months after we launched, I had very strong and clear visions of what I wanted to see it grow into, and it seemed like I had a non stop flow of ideas hitting me all the time.. But if I’m being honest with you, once I put my head down and started doing the work, I kind of got a little lost and lost site of some of the purposes and goals I had made. So taking some time to come up for air over the holidays and reevaluate and regain focus has been really good.
Our motto and goal at Whitken & Co. is to help people create beautiful, functional, and healing spaces to live, work, play in, and share with others.
Another personal goal and motto of mine as I create content for the blog is to encourage, inspire, and educate others so that whether they hire us or someone else or do the work themselves., they can go forward with confidence as they create a home for their family.
So what do the upcoming months and year look like for Whitkena & Co. and for you, our readers and clients?
We’re excited to start tackling some projects here in our own home. We bought it back in April and have been biding our time as we figure out what spaces we want to tackle first and as I’ve tried to figure out which direction I want to the take the design. We’ll be starting the master bedroom soon, and I couldn’t be more excited to start bringing it back to life.
We’re of course looking forward to continue connecting and working with local friends and clients as well as expanding our e-design offerings. Two of the things we want to focus on helping our clients with this year are color selection and space planning. We get the most questions about this. They both can be pretty overwhelming to tackle but can make such a huge difference in how your home feels and functions. We’re hoping that by focusing on these two things and offering them as singular services we’ll make hiring an interior designer attainable for more people. We are so passionate about helping people live their best lives at home, and simply having some help choosing colors or arranging furniture could change the whole atmosphere and functionality of your space.
We’re committed to producing even stronger, meatier content in the coming year. What do we mean by that? Well instead of sharing a post that says “hey, look at my new rug or a freshly painted space,” we want to share our thought process behind each decision and leave you with knowledge and strategies that you can take away to help you tackle your own space. We're temporarily taking a break from the weekly mood boards in order to focus on some other content based off of questions that we've received. I'm hoping this will be more beneficial to you guys. You are one of the main reasons we're here! We'll also continue to share a monthly recipe and DIY, along with some other fun and informational content. We’re also going to start adding weekly sales picks so that hopefully we can help you score some pieces you might not have found otherwise and get a good deal along the way.
We’re also excited to roll out at least two courses later on this year. We realize that not everyone can afford or may even want to hire an interior designer, but neither of those things should stop anyone from having a home that makes them happy and rejuvenates them. Stay tuned to find out more about what we’ll be teaching and the course format we’re working on. A lot of our readers are busy mamas and we want to make it so even with your crazy life you can squeeze in one these courses to help you create the home of your dreams.
Back in August we shared how we plan to give back, and we’re hoping to make good on that promise this year. I'm personally looking into volunteer opportunities with our local Habitat for Humanity in order to get more involved in our community and make more connections that will help make this goal and dream of helping others have and create a home they love a reality.
Guys, I would love to hear from you. Like I said, my goal is to help encourage, inspire, and educate you as you create a home you love. If you have suggestions or ideas for anything here on the blog, please let me know. You can leave them in the comments or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org. I really want to hear from you!
Thank you so much for reading the blog this past year and following along with our own home journey. It means the world to me and inspires me to keep going. Love you all and excited to share this new year with you!
