Since high school I’ve struggled with depression on and off. I’m 28 now and life hasn’t exactly turned out how I’d hoped it would. Like many I had big plans and dreams, and so far none of those have come to fruition. It often seems like I’m treading deep water trying to keep my head up and not getting anywhere in life. I’m just surviving. I find myself dwelling on the negatives in my life instead of the blessings. Like everyone, I have plenty of both, and like many I choose to dwell on the “have nots” instead of the “haves.”
I’ve been convicted and thinking about my negative attitude toward life and lack of gratitude a lot lately and how I need to work on being grateful when a project started to develop in my mind. Project #choosinggratitude. My pastor’s wife from back home in Texas gave me a book by the same title as a wedding shower gift that helped spark the idea.
My plan is to read through the book and work through the study guide. But the long term goal of the project is to take pictures of the things and people I am grateful for as a visual reminder and diary for myself. I plan on sharing the images through social media and my blog and would love to have you join me. If you are on Instagram, just use the hashtag #projectchoosinggratitude to share your photos and what you’re grateful for. If you don't have Instagram, feel free to email your images and what you're grateful for to firstname.lastname@example.org. I will be looking for your images to share through my Instagram feed (@whitneydonaephotography) and also on my blog! I’m sure I’m not the only person to struggle with these things and would love for you to be a part of this project as a way to encourage and build each other up!
