The snack attack hits more often than I care to admit, especially working from home where food is easily accessible and it makes for a quick and easy break when I get tired of sitting.
I try to keep snacks around that are both healthy and easy to grab, so that I'm less likely to eat junk. Below are 10 snacks that I keep around on a regular basis and are almost as easy as grabbing a bag of chips, which I wish were a health food!
I love to slice mine with a slicer like the one pictured below. It makes them easier to eat and less messy.
AKA Cuties or Halos and much easier to peel than an orange, I've always got a bowl of these out on our counter. Our home group always loves snacking on them too when they come over.
Usually I crave salty things, but every once in a while I need something sweet and bananas help satisfy that sweet tooth.
These aren't as easy to eat and are a little messy, but I love them with a little salt sprinkled on top. I usually slice them like I would an orange and peel the ends back to separate the flesh from the rind. This makes them easier to eat, although still kind of messy.
5. Frozen Mango
I love, love, love frozen mango. It satisfies the desire of a desert after dinner and I also love using it for my breakfast smoothies during the summer.
6. Baby Carrots
I keep these in a big baggy in our fridge and put them in my hubby's lunch, and if I want a snack while I'm cooking dinner or waiting for Kendall to get home, I'll grab some of these to stave off the munchies.
I don't eat this a lot, but if I buy some for a recipe, I'll cut the rest up into snack size pieces and put them in a baggie to make them easy to grab.
Popcorn probably saved my figure in college. It's pretty much the only thing I kept around for snacking. I learned that lesson the hard way after my first semester! I love chips, but popcorn satisfies that want for something salty and crunchy.
9. Meat and cheese
I try to limit my carbs, so sometimes in the afternoon when I'm craving something salty, I'll grab a couple of slices of lunch meat and cheese and roll them together.
My favorites are cashews and almonds. So good and definitely as easy to grab as a bag of chips!
Nutella, Peanut Butter, Cream Cheese, Hummus. Whenever I need my snack to have a little more punch to it, I might add one of these spreads in moderation. I love Nutella on my bananas and sometimes I'll dip my baby carrots in cream cheese for a little extra added protein and flavor.
If you want some more snack ideas or healthy recipes, Nuts.com has a lot of ideas on their blog. In addition to any kind of nut you could want, they also sell healthy snacking options, coffees and teas, and baking goods. I recently learned about them and was excited to see that they're a family owned and operated business that was started in the early 1900s. I love supporting local and family owned businesses when I have the chance, so If you're looking for some snacks for yourself or gift ideas for someone definitely go browse their site! I've also included a chart form Nuts.com at the bottom of this post to help you know what to reach for based on what you're craving!
