June Mood Board: #clientrossnotrachel Entryway

We are still catching up on our mood boards here! Even though it's technically August, we're on June!

This week I'm sharing an actual project with you. This mood board is one of the ones we shared with our client for her entryway. Our client leans mostly towards traditional with a touch of rustic and boho.

We started with a neutral background and this narrow entry table, and sought out some fun options in lighting, rugs, and mirrors to add color and interest. This Estrel rug was part of the original plan, but we ended up swapping it out with a different option due to it being back ordered. It's super popular so if you like follow the link to jump on it. They recently restocked it, but it won't be available long!

If you want to see what she went with, be sure to sign up for email list to receive a downloadable PDF of both designs.

The Launch of Whitken & Co. Pt. 1

So, I realized last week when I sat down to get back to blogging that although I had announced the launch of Whitken & Co. on our social media channels, I had never announced the launch of it here on the blog. Oops! Time to fix that.

When I first started blogging about home décor two years ago now, I didn’t really know what I wanted the blog to become or if I would eventually want to take on clients. Initially, I said a big, fat “no” to the idea.

As usually happens with me though, I eventually gave in to at least considering the idea. My mind is always flooded with ideas and things I want to try and truthfully, I’ll never be able to try them all in my own home so why not try them in someone else’s? I still get the joy of creating something unique and beautiful, and they get to enjoy a beautifully crafted home. It’s a win win.

I still wasn’t completely sold on the idea, though. If I launched a business and took on clients, I wanted it to go beyond just creating beautiful spaces. I wanted it to help people. To change their life or inspire them in some way.

Kendall and I both like to entertain family and friends and create things so the idea of creating a beautiful, functional home that we can live, work, play in, and share with others was important to us, and I found a passion growing inside of me to help others do the same.

Over time, that big fat no became an all consuming “yes.” I gave myself until June of this year to get done all that I could to launch Whitken and Co., and decided that completely ready or not, we would launch, and we did.

The same week that we launched we got our first client, and it has been a whirlwind of working and learning ever since. I have loved every minute of it though, and it has only confirmed in my mind that this is what I want and was made to do.

During those 6 months when I was really focused on getting the technical part of the business organized, the idea of creating not just beautiful and functional spaces, but also healing spaces started taking root in my mind. I’m going to share more on that soon, my story, and what we mean by that. I’ll also be sharing the short, but humorous story behind our name. So stay tuned!

We’re excited and grateful for the clients we have and for the clients to come, and to see what this business turns into. We have lots of ideas and plans for the future, and we’re grateful and excited to share it with each of you! Thanks for following along! Be sure to check out our services here and let us know if there is some way we can help you create a beautiful, functional, and healing home!

May Mood Board: Boho Pottery Barn Girls Bedroom

Guys, it has been awhile!!! With moving in April and the Launch of Whitken & Co., life kind of took off and the blog kind of had to take a back seat for a little while. I am excited to be back here though, and have several mood boards lined up to share with you as well as sharing more of the #therobertleerobinsonhouse and our current client projects!

This mood board, however, has nothing to do with any of those things! Let me let you in on a little secret: I often will shop the kids or teens section of a brand and incorporate items from them into my "grown up" designs. Often you can find some really great pieces at more affordable prices than you will find in the regular home section. For example, check out the beautiful quilt comforter in this mood board! It is gorgeous, and I wouldn't be ashamed at all to have that on my bed!

PB Teen is having a huge sale on a lot of their items for dorm rooms right now., and this board, as well as the guys version that went out to email subscribers, is built completely from their teen section. I'm kind of in love with this girls room and the guys version ain't half bad either!
